personal classes

Whilst puppy training is essential for all new puppy owners, group classes don’t suit everyone. If you’re keen to get your puppy’s training off to the best start but can’t commit to group classes or would like more personal support, then one to one puppy classes could be a great alternative.

Personal Puppy Classes are the perfect choice for:

  • Puppies who haven’t had all their vaccinations, so can’t join group classes yet.

  • Shift workers who can’t commit to classes at the same time each week.

  • Those with work or family commitments whose lives don’t fit in with puppy class times.

  • First time puppy owners who would like a bit more help than group classes can provide.

  • Older puppies who are too old to join group classes.

  • Rescue puppies who may be more sensitive and need some more personal support.

  • Practical support where you need it, like in your home, garden, on walks or other public places.

During our personal puppy classes, we will cover the same content that I teach in my group puppy classes. This includes learning to settle, recall, loose lead walking, sit and down positions, focus and impulse control, among other things.

However the great thing about one to one training is that we can tailor each session to cover exactly what it is you need help with. So in addition to all of the above, we can also work on toilet training, biting, playing nicely, sleep and daily routine, meeting other dogs and people, interactions with children and other pets, handling and grooming, understanding body language and more.

As well as being able to choose what we focus on, you can also choose where we do the training. Usually we’ll start with the first session at your home, but I can join you on a walk, take your puppy to a cafe to work on socialisation and settle or even go to a secure field where we can practise recall. As long as it’s safe and legal, the choice is yours!

faqs

  • It’s best to start your puppy’s training as soon as possible. In my experience, having expert advice and support from the moment you bring your puppy home can be hugely beneficial to nervous new puppy owners. Although they won’t be able to join group classes until they’ve had their vaccinations, we can start one to one classes from as soon as your puppy arrives in your home.

  • I will travel to you for one to one training. I cover Crawley and the surrounding areas including Horley, Smallfield, Lingfield, Dormansland, Copthorne, Crawley Down, Turners Hill, West Hoathly, Sharpthorne, Balcombe, Cuckfield, Haywards Heath, Felbridge and East Grinstead. If you’re outside of these areas, please do still get in touch and I will let you know if I can cover your area.

  • The great thing about one to one training is that we can work it around your schedule. We’ll agree the date and time of the next session at the each of each one, so you have time to check your calendar before we choose a date.

  • Yes of course! It’s great to get the whole family involved in your new puppy’s training. However if your children are under 6 or need a lot of supervision, it might be better to have another adult on hand, so that you don’t have too many things to worry about!

  • Whatever you want! We’ll usually cover the standard training class content, which includes settle, recall, loose lead walking, sit and down positions, leave, stay and more. But we can also cover anything else that is particularly important to you or that you’re struggling with.

  • The honest answer is that it depends. Socialisation refers to the development stage your puppy goes through between around 6 and 12-14 weeks, where they learn to accept the things they experience as normal parts of life.

If you live in an area where there are lots of dogs and people around, then it’s unlikely that your puppy would miss out by doing one to one training rather than classes. If this is something you’re concerned about, let me know and we can discuss how we can still make socialisation part of your puppy’s training.

  • All you have to do is get in touch to let me know that you’re interested and we can take it from there. Click the link at the bottom of this page for all the details of how you can contact me. If you have questions, you can book a free no obligation introductory call with me to find out more before you commit.
