training club

If you’ve dreamt of peaceful walks with your pooch and calm cuddles on the sofa with your canine buddy, but the reality isn’t quite shaping up how you imagined, then these classes could be just what you’re looking for!

These relaxed and informal obedience classes are perfect for:

  • Brushing up on your dog’s basic training, no matter what level of training they’ve already achieved.

  • Spending quality time with your pup in a relaxed and informal group setting.

  • Helping your dog learn to focus on you and relax around other dogs and people.

  • Progressing your dog’s training to help them become a calm and confident canine companion.

  • Working your dog’s brain to tire them out and meet their need for mental stimulation.

  • Learning new ways to engage with your dog at home and out on walks.

The goal of classes is to help you learn how to communicate and connect with your dog, so that they understand what is expected of them.

teach your old dog new tricks

All of the skills we teach have a purpose, they’re either things that are going to keep your dog safe, or ways to keep them happy and fulfilled.

During the classes, we will cover:

  • All the basic training and life skills your dog should know like recall, loose lead walking and settling in public places

  • More advanced training like emergency stop, stay and not jumping up

  • Handling skills that can help you with grooming and at the vets, including chin rest and giving a paw

  • Pattern games to help your dog’s confidence and focus out and about

We’re not aiming for competition level obedience, just helping our dogs learn how to live in a human world and having some fun!

certificates

The Happy Dog certificates give you something to work towards both in and outside of classes. The aim is to teach your dog all the skills they need to be a happy canine companion.

There are three certificates to work towards, which get more advanced as you progress.

  • happy dog - companion

Teach your dog skills to help them behave calmly and politely around distractions, including food manners and polite greetings.

  • happy dog - expert

Learn more advanced training skills to keep your dog safe and help them cope in different situations, like emergency stop and relaxed settle.

faqs

  • Happy Dog training club is perfect for dogs of all ages! We can cover some basic training in the classes, so they don’t even need to have been to puppy classes to be able to come along.

  • The Happy Dog training club is held at the Forge Wood Community Centre. The hall has a dedicated car park, grassy areas nearby for dogs and toilets for humans.

The location is easily accessible from Crawley and the surrounding areas including Forge Wood, Pound Hill, Worth, Three Bridges, Copthorne, Horley, Smallfield, Charlwood, Lingfield, Felbridge and East Grinstead.

  • Yes of course! It’s great to get the whole family involved in your new dog’s training. However if your children are under 6 or need a lot of supervision, it might be better to leave them at home or bring along another adult so that you don’t have too many things to worry about!

  • The exact content of each class will differ, to help make things interesting. But we’ll focus. on covering the things included in the certificates, as well as some other fun games and activities. We can also adjust the content to include anything particularly important to you and your dog.

  • Group classes aren’t always the right choice. If your dog is particularly nervous or is reactive to dogs or people, they may find a class environment too overwhelming. If your dog struggles with other dogs, get in touch and we can talk about the best option for them.
